Butterfly Card and Experimenting With Vellum in My Cricut Imagine.


How are you all doing ???? I am doing great, and waiting for my soldier to come home by mid June, and my sailor by the end of July. Brandon, my soldier, will be marrying his high school sweetheart when he comes home on vacation, and before leaving to S. Korea. In the meantime, I try to keep busy with ... gosh, so many things !!! LOL One of the things I will be doing is, I volunteered to make Cowboy themed cupcakes or a cake for my grandson's last day of Day Care party. I am sure I will be throwing in something else !!! LOL
Well, to the project. :) I love vellum. Some years ago, I used to make handmade 100% vellum cards, colored them by hand, and pierced the paper to make it look like it was a piece of embroidered fine linen. I got the All Wrapped Up cartridge (great cartridge- love it), and flipping through the pages I saw this gorgeous card, shaped like a butterfly. It had a pair of wings as a layer. Without hesitation, I grabbed my vellum paper to make the wings. Let me tell you, the Imagine prints and cuts vellum beautifully.
  • RECIPE:
  • Print and cut butterfly with regular cardstock
  • Print and cut layers in vellum. Set blade to: speed 2, pressure 3, depth 4. Make sure your mat is sticky enough to hold the vellum uniformly (no bubbles).
    • Set you ink to "DRAFT" quality

  • Spray the wings with Glimmer Mist (I used white)
    • Glue the wings to the vellum butterfly layer.
    • Glue the butterfly layer to the cardstock layer, only at the card "fold"












  • Add crystals and pearls. Embellish paper with paper piercing.

  • Emboss the flowers on the wings. Do this with the embossing stylus on the back of the paper, as shown.
  • Add Stickles ans enjoy the final product


  • Here is the same card, but only the wings are made out of vellum. The only embellishment is Stickles.

You have no idea what fun it was to make this card and what wonderful memories it brought back. Vellum or parchment paper cards are a common style of cards in Spanish speaking countries. It is mostly know as "Tarjeteria Espanola" (cardmaking from Spain). It requires a lot of work and detail. For this card I mixed vellum's "Tarjeteria Espanola" techniques but, also added some regular cardstock.

  • From a pattern or clip art, trace the chosen shape onto the vellum paper. White or sepia ink are the ones generally used for tracing.
  • All these details are done on the back of the image:
    • On the back of the vellum where the image was traced, color in the image using markers, chalks, color pencils, etc.
    • Use the appropiate tool to emboss the image in the areas where it is needed like petals, ribbon and "swiss dots" on fan.
    • with piercing tools, add "embroidery" effect.
  • With piercing tool, pierce around the image and inside the bow loops.
                                                                                           

  • Tear away the excess vellum paper by pulling away through the tiny holes you pierced.
    • Shown is a close up of how the image looks once it has been separated from the vellum.
  •  Embellish fan as your little heart desires. I added Swarovsky Crystals, pearls and a tiny rose at the center of the bow.
  • Insert a folded piece of cardstock inside the vellum card.
    • Make a border with Martha Stewart border punch.
    • Stamp sentiment.

First Communion card-Paper Doll Dress Up / tarjeta de Primera Comunion


Happy Saturday, everyone !!! My oldest son, a USNAVY sailor, has just come home for a short vacation. I will not be posting too frequently while he is here and I know, you all understand :). This First Communion card I made two months ago. As a matter of fact, I made a lot of them to be sold at a local chidren's bouitque.

**** Feliz sabado a todoooosss !!! Mi hijo mayor, que es militar en el USNAVY, se encuentra en casa desde ayer pasandose unas cortas vacaciones. Por lo tanto, no estare actualizando mi blog muy frecuentemente, mientras el se encuentre aqui, pero se que ustedes me entinden :). Esta tarjeta de Primera Comunion, la hice hace unos meses (de hecho, que hice muchas) para ser vendida en una boutique de ropa de ni~nos en mi area.

Here is how I made it:
Asi fue que la hice:
Cut the doll and stamp the face. Color the face and eye details.
Cut the dress twice: once with cardstock and the other with vellum. Decorate the vellum dress using a white pen like Gelly Roll (Sakura), pierce with a paper piercer and, add a pearl. Glue the vellum layer of the dress to the cadstock dress. Add Stickles to shoes and crown.

****Corte el cuerpito y estampe la carita. Coloree los detalles de la carita y de los ojos.
Corte el trajecito dos veces: uno en cartulina y el otro en pergamino. Decore el trajecito de pergamino con un boligrafo blanco, como Gelly Roll (Sakura). Haga agujeritos con un calador y para finalizar, coloque una perlita. Pegue el trajecito de pergamino sobre el de cartulina con pega para papel pergamino. A~nada Stickles a los zapatos y a la coronita.
